I’ve been at this business for a long time – two decades. (I started at the age of ten.) I’ve seen it all or so I thought. Today was a first for me. I showed one of my listings via Skype! The estate is sizable but typically I tour the property with clients in 20-30 minutes. The Skype tour took an hour and thirty minutes! The length of time was not due to technology but, because the client was not present, things like ceiling heights, colors and hardware details had to be explained.
I rely heavily on technology and the web to promote my listings. When I do have out of town clients, I’ll share a virtual tour with them but this was different. This was a real time tour with high levels of interaction with a client thousands of miles away. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not marveling about the use of video chat. I use Skype to show my NY-based daughter my new haircut but hadn’t experienced using the technology to consider a multi-million dollar decision! Oh how quickly things are changing!
