Fourth of July festivities are the epitome of summer. Cookouts poolside or beach lounging throughout the day topped by colorful fireworks and community events. This will be the order of the day in South Florida. I’ve highlighted top events in Coral Gables and Coconut Grove for you and hope you enjoy this holiday as we collectively celebrate this great nation and keep it safe.
CORAL GABLES
Fireworks Celebration at the Biltmore Hotel
When: Wednesday, July 4th. Grounds open at 5 p.m., live concert at 7 p.m. and fireworks show at 9 p.m.
Where: Biltmore Hotel, 1200 Anastasia Avenue.
The City will offer free parking and continuous shuttle service throughout the evening to and from the Biltmore Hotel. Shuttle service begins at 5 p.m. from the following locations (click on each location for more information):
• University of Miami – Ponce garage and BankUnited Center surface lot
• Coral Gables Youth Center – 405 University Drive
• 385 Andalusia Avenue – Garage 4
There will be refreshments available for purchase.
Fireworks (including sparklers), smoking, grills, pets, tents, glass containers and weapons are NOT allowed at the event.
COCONUT GROVE
Fourth of July festivities the start with the traditional picnic at The Barnacle. The park opens at 9 a.m. with activities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The park closes at 5 p.m. Lawn games, board games, kite making, crafts, and a treasure hunt will keep the whole family entertained. Live music from Joel Zoss adds atmosphere to a park already decked out in traditional Fourth of July bunting.
The Barnacle welcomes blankets, lawn chairs and picnics, but alcohol and fireworks are not permitted. Bring a picnic or treat yourself to hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie dogs and burgers, popcorn, soft drinks and ice cream available for purchase. The Barnacle Historic State Park is located at 3485 Main Hwy. in downtown Coconut Grove, across the street from the Coconut Grove Playhouse. Live music from Joel Zoss adds atmosphere to a park already decked out in traditional Fourth of July bunting. Admission to the park on the day of this event is $5; $3 for ages 6-12; children under 6 are free.
After the fun and games in The Barnacle, head over to Peacock Park to enjoy a family-friendly event from 4 – 10PM in one of Miami’s most picturesque settings featuring free admission for all plus great music, tasty food and beverages, entertainment for kids and a spectacular fireworks display from the shoreline of Biscayne Bay.
